it’s not a depressing game. it’s a game filled of pride! I’m proud that they gave a great battle to the winner of the game. and the owned the game. They owned the game but luck wasnt by the Koreans.

  • 6. YangJinJi  |  June 26, 2010 at 12:31 PM

Uruguay didn’t deserve that they win… in the second half they did nothing… Korea was so much better 😦

  • 10. @mee  |  June 26, 2010 at 1:00 PM

it was clear that korea deserved to win. way better plays and techniques. sigh…

  • 11. aerd  |  June 26, 2010 at 2:03 PM

wow you guys don’t observe that well….
the second goal, if you look closely, was clearly due to #8’s fault.

And during the second half, Lee Dong Kook lost 2 chances in no man land. He came out this year after not having played in prof. soccer for 13 years. Some netizens commented, “Why didn’t he wait a little longer? Why come out now?” venting their fury on Korea player number 8, who is gaining much anger and attention for his bad play this whole world cup.

Of course I was rooting for South Korea, though knowing they were a big underdog. Uruguay is a quite good team, but S. Korea played a good game against them. I knew they had their work cut out for them when Uruguay scored first, but once they scored the equalizer, it gave me hope they could still pull out a win. That hope got dashed pretty quickly, of course, but I still felt South Korea was capable of scoring again to force a shootout. Not to be, but I did enjoy the game.

The U.S. team has its hand full against Ghana too (falling behind 1-0 in the first half). I’d already decided that if both the South Korean and the U.S. teams won their games today, and therfore had to face each other, I’d still be rooting for South Korea in that match. I felt those teams were pretty evenly match, so it would make for a good game.

i like how we lost playing our best game so far in the world cup. i’m surprised there isn’t more backlash against park chuyoung who has consistently failed to finish as a striker. and don’t get me started on the referee. he leaves me no choice but to punch him in the eyes cause they serve no visual purpose.

congratulations to the team (especially lee youngpyo and park hisung) for controlling most of the game against such a fierce opponent and thank you for taking us to round 16 for the first time internationally 🙂

Great match! Uruguay is so much better than Korea, they were more inteligent, more agressive and they win!

    • 17. JamesC  |  June 27, 2010 at 3:58 AM

      Hell No!!!

Omg. Seriously? The onlything that Uruguay players did were fauls. This is soccer. You play with balls. NO PULLING SHIRTS OR BEATING UP YOUR OPPONENTS. Got it?
you guys only had those stupid referees whom u had invested a lot. haha

  • 20. prncssptri  |  June 26, 2010 at 4:35 PM

    i missed this!! thanks!!

  • 21. girls7  |  June 26, 2010 at 8:18 PM

can i just say that the referee was being such a DOUCHEWAD?

gah. i’m not even into soccer that much (i haven’t watched it enough to get it/like it) but it pissed me off on how biased the referee seemed. ALSKDJFLA. >:F

  • 22. blah  |  June 26, 2010 at 8:36 PM

if you say that you don’t watch much soccer, how do you know that the referee was being biased? For you to say that you would have to have enough knowledge about making calls on what is what in soccer. Both teams played a great game, unfortunately one of the two teams had to win and the other one lose. There is always next time

James C…Your sentiments mirror mine. I sorta knew South Korea (and the U.S.) were unlikely to survive, figuring the only chance for either team to win was to force a tie in both regulation and overtime, thus making it to the shootout/penalty shots stage. It’s not that I really wanted to then have to pick sides should both teams advance (since they’d then face one another), but simply because I felt that particular matchup might just end up being the most exciting game of this year’s World Cups. Still, South Korea (and the U.S.) put in good showings, so they have nothing to feel bad about.

Ouch! England just got crushed by Germany, 4-1. That was a tad surprising to me…not that England lost, but the one-sided score of the matchup.

Soccer is an art more central to our culture than anything the Arts Council deigns to recognize.
